Lenticular technology is a high resolution imaging process that enables us to produce visual effects such as flip animations or 3D images.
Lenticular Foil:Before initiating the design process and image selection, it is necessary to decide which lenticular foil to use. According to the application of the end product you can choose between 40, 50, 60, 62, 75 and 100 lpi foils. The difference between these foils is the number of lenses per inch and the thickness of the foil. For example, the most commonly used foil of 75 lpi has a thickness of 485 my.
The Method:The image selection, choice of effect and the processing are fundamental aspects of a successful production. When creating a flip-effect (image swap) there must be at least 2 image sources for the effect to be prominent. In our experience, 3 images (complete image swap) is the maximum number recommended for a successful flip-effect. 3D visualizations require a large number of images to correctly portray the sense of depth. These images can be sourced digitally using a photo montage, or through 3D-photography (multiple images taken around the perimeter of an object.) Morph effects can only be created with the use of special software. The goal is to create a smooth, realistic transition between a source image and a target image. For instance, it is easier to morph a human face into another human face, as opposed to a face into a chair. Text, especially in smaller sizes, can be difficult to read due to the lens structure, in particular when the text is part of the animation, or visual effect. To create animations, transitions or 3D-effects from Photoshop images, a special step-by-step procedure is undertaken. The finished images are rendered using special software and expert know-how based on the required application. Subsequently, the printing press is subjected to direct high resolution exposure alongside a unique screening technique. The printing occurs directly onto the lenticular sheet, and must be conducted with utmost precision (accurate to 0.01 millimeters.) The reverse side of the sheet can also be printed upon, personalized or even equipped with an adhesive surface. ProductsWe produce lenticular products up to a format of 480*680 mm. The most common applications of lenticular effects are:
